British military police have deepened cooperation with Ukrainian and Norwegian forces during a joint training exchange at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, part of NATO’s

Warfare Development initiative.

Personnel from the British Army’s 150 Provost Company, 1st Battalion Royal Military Police (1RMP), hosted the visiting teams for several days of briefings and practical exercises designed to improve interoperability in frontline policing and security operations. The Ministry of Defence said the exchange focused on sharing insights from recent conflicts and comparing approaches to battlefield law enforcement.

The collaboration builds on ties formed through Operation Interflex, the UK-led programme that trains Ukrainian troops. During the visit, participants examined British military police procedures, equipment and recent operational lessons before taking part in Exercise Redcap Typhon, a simulated mission run through the Defence Virtual Simulation system.

Major Joshua Stribbing, Officer Commanding 150 Provost Company, said the event showcased the strengths each nation brings to modern military policing. “We shared experiences, as well as trying to demonstrate the capabilities that 1RMP have built up over several decades,” he said. “We gave them the benefit of our experience, and they gave us the benefit of modern conventional warfighting in a manner that we have not engaged in for several years.”

Stribbing underscored the value of Ukraine’s hard-won combat knowledge. “Our Ukrainian colleague said it best: ‘The lessons we’ve learned have been learned in blood,’” he said. “The best way for us to avoid repeating those experiences is to listen and take note so more blood isn’t shed.”

The exchange concluded with Lieutenant Colonel Michael Boyd, Commanding Officer of 1RMP, presenting regimental shields to the visiting officers. The Norwegian delegation shared methods for operating in extreme weather and invited British personnel to train in Norway, while Ukrainian officers observed UK practices for rapid deployment and readiness.
