British Queen celebrates

Veterans and their families are set to gain access to safer, higher-quality housing as the government awards £4.5 million to 19 providers across the UK. The funding will support the construction

of 45 new homes and pay for essential upgrades to existing buildings, including shared spaces and critical infrastructure.

The announcement—part of a wider £20 million capital housing investment—was made on Thursday by Minister for Veterans and People Louise Sandher-Jones MP during a visit to The Stoll Foundation’s Kings Road Park development in Fulham. While there, she officially opened Valour House, a new facility offering long-term, secure accommodation for former service personnel and their families.

The Veterans Capital Housing Fund, which distributes grants across all nations and regions of the UK, will allocate more than £3.9 million in major awards to nine organisations, with a further £500,000 in top-up grants for ten groups already undertaking housing projects. To date, the fund has provided over £12.5 million in support, benefiting thousands of veterans.

As well as backing new builds, the latest round of funding will cover vital refurbishments ranging from roof and window replacements to boiler upgrades and accessibility improvement.

Minister for Veterans and People, Louise Sandher-Jones MP, said:

“Every veteran deserves a safe, secure place to call home. That’s not just a moral obligation – it’s a promise this Government is determined to keep. Today marks another significant step towards delivering the Prime Minister’s pledge to provide homes fit for our heroes across the United Kingdom.

We’re delivering real change through the Veterans Capital Housing Fund and it was fantastic to see first-hand how these homes are providing veterans and their families with the security and support they need”.

Will Campbell-Wroe, Chief Executive for the Stoll Foundation, said:

“The Stoll Foundation was delighted to have the minister officially open Valour House which will provide accommodation for veterans and their families for years to come. As the only specialist veteran housing provider that is registered with the Regulator of Social Housing we are proud to provide these high-quality homes at social rent in conjunction with the Greater London Authority and the Berkeley Group”.

The funding boost also comes ahead of the release of the Defence Housing Strategy, which is expected to introduce priority “first-dibs” access for veterans and serving personnel seeking to buy homes built on surplus Ministry of Defence land.

This latest action builds on recent steps to remove local connection requirements for veterans applying for social housing in England. The government has also extended Op FORTITUDE and the Reducing Veteran Homelessness programme—with £3.5 million in additional funding until March 2026—initiatives that have already processed more than 4,100 referrals and supported over 1,000 veterans into secure accommodation.
