Google, the tech giant owned by Alphabet, is facing a massive lawsuit in the United Kingdom that could see it paying up to £5 billion (roughly $6.64 billion). The legal action accuses the
company of abusing its dominance in the online search market.
According to the complaint, Google allegedly maintained its stronghold by making deals with smartphone manufacturers to pre-install Google Search and the Chrome browser on Android devices. It also reportedly pays Apple to keep Google as the default search engine on iPhones.
The lawsuit further claims that Google gives its own advertising services an unfair advantage by ensuring its search engine features work better with them than with rival offerings.
As of now, Google has not issued a response to the allegations. Photo by Anthony Quintano from Mount Laurel, United States, Wikimedia commons.
