Sainsbury’s and Asda have issued an urgent recall of a widely used £1 lunchbox favourite, warning customers not to consume the product.
The recall applies to McGhee’s Family Bakers 6 Scottish Brown Rolls, after an error resulted in some packs being contaminated with white rolls that contain soya. This poses a serious health risk for those with a soya allergy.
The affected product, sold at both Sainsbury’s and Asda, was flagged by Food Standards Scotland (FSS), which issued an alert regarding the potential danger.
In a statement, the FSS explained:
“McGhee’s Family Bakers are recalling packs of 6 Scottish Brown Rolls. Due to a packaging mix-up, some packs contain white rolls that include soya, which may cause an allergic reaction in people sensitive to the ingredient.”
Other product recalls
In addition to the McGhee’s rolls, several other products have recently been recalled due to allergy and ingredient concerns:
- David Wood Baking Ltd has recalled Farmfoods 50 Cocktail Sausage Rolls because some packs were mistakenly filled with cheese and onion rolls, which contain milk.
- TJX Europe has recalled several Sultans Turkish Delights products due to undeclared milk.
- TriOn Pharma is recalling two dietary supplements, Aactive D3 Drops and Aactive D3 Solution, after discovering that both contain higher levels of vitamin D3 than indicated on the label.
Key information for affected customers
The McGhee’s rolls affected by the recall have a best before date of January 12, 2025, and batch number LS5007.
According to FSS, McGhee’s Family Bakers has been instructed to notify allergy support groups to inform their members about the recall. The company has also placed warning notices at the point of sale in participating stores.
