Nineteen housing providers across the UK are set to receive £4.5 million in new funding to build and upgrade homes for veterans and their families.
The announcement was made by Veterans and People Minister Louise Sandher-Jones MP during a visit to the Stoll Foundation’s Kings Road Park development in Fulham. The funding will help create 45 new homes and pay for upgrades to shared spaces and essential infrastructure.
During the event, Sandher-Jones officially opened Valour House, a newly built facility offering long-term accommodation for veterans. She said the investment marks real progress toward the Prime Minister’s promise to expand safe, reliable housing for former service personnel.
“Every veteran deserves a safe, secure place to call home,” she said. “That’s not just a moral obligation – it’s a promise this Government is determined to keep.” She added that the Veterans Capital Housing Fund is already delivering “real change” by giving veterans and their families much-needed stability.
The Veterans Capital Housing Fund supports veteran housing organisations in every part of the UK. This new round of funding includes £3.9 million in major grants shared between nine organisations in areas such as Wales, London and the South-East, while another ten groups will receive more than £500,000 combined in top-up grants. According to the Ministry of Defence, the money will go toward building new homes as well as important refurbishments like replacing roofs, boilers, and windows, and improving accessibility.
So far, the fund has distributed over £12.5 million and has supported thousands of veterans. The announcement comes ahead of the upcoming Defence Housing Strategy, which is expected to outline new measures to help service personnel and veterans buy homes — including a “first-dibs” priority scheme for properties built on surplus MoD land.
Will Campbell-Wroe, Chief Executive of the Stoll Foundation, said the organisation was delighted to host the minister for the opening of Valour House. He noted that Stoll is the only specialist veteran housing provider registered with the Regulator of Social Housing and said they’re proud to offer high-quality, affordable homes in partnership with the Greater London Authority and Berkeley Group.
The Ministry of Defence also shared an update on Operation FORTITUDE, reporting that the programme has received more than 4,100 referrals and has helped over 1,000 veterans secure housing since it launched.
