British Queen celebrates

Arsenal are expected to face disciplinary action from the Football Association after receiving six yellow cards during Sunday’s 1–1 draw with Chelsea.

Manager Mikel Arteta could only watch from the touchline as his side were forced to battle back from a goal down to secure a point at the Emirates Stadium, despite playing the entire second half against ten men. The result saw Arsenal miss the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League.

The Gunners endured a frustrating afternoon against a well-organised Chelsea defence, and their frustration was reflected in the referee’s notebook. Martin Zubimendi, Cristhian Mosquera, Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapié were cautioned before half-time, while substitutes Myles Lewis-Skelly and Viktor Gyökeres were shown yellow cards after the interval.

According to the FA’s regulations, any club that accumulates six or more bookings in a single match is automatically subject to a £25,000 fine. Repeat offences trigger progressively higher financial penalties. Arsenal last incurred the same sanction in February 2024, when they received six bookings during a 3–1 home victory over Liverpool.

Arsenal return to action on Wednesday when they host Brentford, before travelling to face Aston Villa on Saturday. Arteta’s side have managed just one win in their past four encounters with Villa, who sit fourth in the table, six points behind the Gunners.
