British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized the need for caution in shaping Syria's future following the anticipated end of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, advocating for "credible, inclusive, and

non-sectarian governance on behalf of all Syrians."

Speaking on Friday after a call with other Group of Seven (G7) leaders, Starmer welcomed the potential fall of Assad’s rule but warned of the challenges ahead. "The Prime Minister said that while the collapse of Assad’s brutal regime should be welcomed, we must carefully consider what follows to ensure stability," a spokesperson for Starmer stated.

The G7 leaders collectively stressed the importance of safeguarding Syria’s territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty throughout any transitional period and beyond, echoing sentiments from a G7 statement on Syria issued the previous day.

In addition to addressing Syria, Starmer called for increased military aid to Ukraine and tougher sanctions on Russia. "With Russia’s aggression showing no signs of abating, it is crucial that we enhance our support to position Ukraine strongly for the future," the Prime Minister remarked, according to his spokesperson.
