Nigel Farage will promise to deliver “the most pro-business government in British history” as he sets out Reform UK’s economic agenda in a keynote speech in London on Monday.
The Reform leader is expected to champion a programme of sweeping deregulation, arguing that successive governments have squandered the economic opportunities presented by Brexit. Farage will say the UK must “finish the job” by loosening what he sees as burdensome rules holding back growth.
However, he is also poised to dial back one of Reform UK’s most eye-catching pledges from the 2024 general election: cutting taxes by £90bn. Farage will argue that both Labour and the Conservatives have “wrecked the public finances”, forcing a future Reform government to focus first on bringing public spending under control.
Reform UK’s manifesto had proposed tax cuts worth roughly a third of the NHS budget, including raising the personal allowance to £20,000, creating a £100,000 tax-free allowance for businesses and scrapping business rates for some high-street firms.
According to Politico, Farage may also soften his stance on scrapping the two-child benefit cap. A senior party official told the outlet that he would “clarify” the policy so that the cap would be removed only for full-time working British parents.
