Applications are now open for the 2026 edition of the UK-Italy Young Leaders Programme, an initiative designed to strengthen long-term ties between the two countries by bringing together

emerging leaders from a wide range of professional fields.

Launched in 2023 by the British and Italian Prime Ministers, the programme aims to build a new generation of leaders committed to advancing bilateral relations. Participants are selected for their professional achievements, leadership potential and dedication to fostering collaboration between the UK and Italy.

The new call for applications runs from 24 November to 11 January 2026. Candidates must be under 40 on the closing date, hold UK or Italian citizenship, and speak fluent English—with Italian language skills considered an asset. Applicants are also required to show clear evidence of leadership and a commitment to deepening UK-Italy cooperation.

Those chosen will join an exclusive international network and take part in high-level events and visits in both countries. Organisers say the experience is designed to encourage cultural understanding, strategic dialogue and the exchange of ideas across sectors including business, academia, science, media, the arts, and public service.

Previous editions have produced a growing alumni community featuring journalists, entrepreneurs, academics, artists, military representatives and scientists. According to programme representatives, each cohort contributes to stronger diplomatic, cultural and economic ties at the highest level.

Successful applicants will be asked to sign a Young Leaders Charter and participate in official visits hosted by the British Embassy in Rome and the Italian Embassy in London.
