British Queen celebrates

The Royal Mint has unveiled the first UK commemorative coin celebrating Princess Anne, marking her 75th birthday this summer.

The coin features a specially commissioned portrait of the Princess Royal, who personally approved the design. She is depicted in formal attire, wearing a tiara and smiling—a tribute to her enduring grace and dedication.

Created by Royal Mint designer Thomas T. Docherty, the image is inspired by a portrait taken by renowned photographer John Swannell, a fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. Docherty has previously designed coins for other major royal milestones, including the 40th birthdays of the Prince of Wales and King Charles III.

Encircling the portrait are the words: “The Princess Royal – Celebrating 75 Years – Duty and Devotion.” On the reverse side of the coin is the image of her brother, King Charles III, as is traditional for UK currency.

The coin was officially released on July 18, ahead of Princess Anne’s 75th birthday on August 15.

Designer Thomas T. Docherty said ”In designing this piece, I wanted to capture Her Royal Highness’s remarkable legacy and dedication to public service. The portrait reflects her strength of character and unwavering commitment to duty. Being Scottish, I admire The Princess Royal’s dedication to Scottish organisations and communities, and I hope this coin serves as a fitting tribute.”

The Royal Mint’s Director of Commemorative Coin, Rebecca Morgan, said ”For the first time in British numismatic history, we are honoured to celebrate The Princess Royal on an official UK coin. Her Royal Highness’s unwavering commitment to public service, charitable work, and support of His Majesty’s Armed Forces over seven and a half decades makes her truly deserving of this tribute. The graceful design by Thomas Docherty perfectly captures both her dignified presence and extraordinary legacy while also celebrating The Princess Royal’s 75th birthday.”
