From the legendary reggae rhythms of Bob Marley to the chart-topping hits of Kylie Minogue and the soulful melodies of Raye, King Charles has unveiled a selection of songs that have shaped
his life. In a special broadcast, the British monarch reflects on the music that has brought him joy over the years.
Titled "The King's Music Room," the curated playlist features 17 tracks and will be aired on Apple Music’s global radio stations on Monday and Tuesday in celebration of Commonwealth Day.
A personal connection to music
"Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me," King Charles shares in a preview of the broadcast, filmed at Buckingham Palace and set for release on Friday.
"It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in times of sadness, and to take us to distant places."
Beyond the playlist, the 76-year-old monarch also offers personal anecdotes about his experiences meeting some of the featured artists and explains why these songs hold special significance.
A diverse and global selection
Apple Music describes the playlist as a blend of genres and eras, showcasing artists from across the Commonwealth’s 56 nations. It includes everything from 1930s crooners to contemporary Afrobeats sensations, alongside classics from Marley and Minogue.
Charles sees this as an innovative and meaningful way to mark Commonwealth Day, an annual celebration of the voluntary association of nations that evolved from the British Empire—an organization he now leads.
"So this is what I particularly wanted to share with you—songs that have brought me joy," the king says in the broadcast. "Thank you for listening. I wish you all every possible blessing."
