Around 60,000 people flocked to Moss Side this weekend for the vibrant Manchester Caribbean Carnival.
The free two-day celebration filled Alexandra Park and surrounding streets with music, colour, and energy, as dancers and musicians took part in the annual parade. The spectacle, months in the making, featured dazzling costumes, elaborate feathered head-dresses, and choreographed performances.
First held in 1972, the carnival was created to honour Caribbean heritage, music, and community spirit. Moss Side’s ties to African and Caribbean culture stretch back to the world wars, when servicemen and seafarers from the region settled in the area — roots that are still celebrated today.
