British Queen celebrates

President Donald Trump has revealed that he will meet with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer "very soon" after Starmer requested a visit to the United States.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Friday, Trump shared details of his recent phone conversation with Starmer, stating, "He asked for a meeting, and I agreed. We're going to have a friendly and very good meeting."

While the exact date remains unclear, Trump suggested the meeting could take place within the next couple of weeks. "I think he wants to come next week… or the week after," he noted.

When asked about the agenda for the meeting, Trump responded, "I don't know. It was his request, not mine." He also mentioned having met Starmer twice before, describing him as "a very nice guy" with whom he gets along well.

The phone call between the two leaders reportedly took place on Thursday while Starmer was meeting Mark Burnett, Washington's special envoy to the UK. Discussions between Starmer and Burnett focused on the longstanding "special relationship" between the UK and the US, as well as opportunities for collaboration in trade, technology, and culture.

An Instagram post from the US Embassy in London revealed that President Trump called Burnett during the meeting, who then "passed the phone to the prime minister."

A Downing Street spokesperson confirmed the call, stating that Starmer was "pleased to host" Burnett at Downing Street, where they discussed the prime minister’s upcoming visit to the US. "They reaffirmed the strength of the UK-US alliance and the deep connection between the two countries," the spokesperson added.

Starmer's trip comes amid concerns over potential US trade tariffs on British goods. Trump has announced plans to impose "reciprocal tariffs" on nations that levy additional costs on US imports, which could impact the UK due to its value-added tax (VAT) system.
