Piotr Cywiński, the director of the Auschwitz Museum in southern Poland, has been awarded the Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in a ceremony held in Warsaw.
The OBE was conferred upon him by King Charles and presented by the British ambassador to Poland, Anna Clunes, and Lord Eric Pickles, the UK's Special Envoy for Post-Holocaust Issues. Cywiński expressed his gratitude to everyone involved, emphasizing the honor and happiness he felt. During the ceremony, he also called for the immediate and unconditional release of civilians held hostage in Ghaza as a crucial step toward building peace in the Middle East.
The British ambassador praised Cywiński's dedication and work as the director of the Auschwitz Museum, highlighting the significance of understanding history to prevent its recurrence. Lord Eric Pickles congratulated Cywiński, stressing that the OBE is awarded for truly exceptional work. He noted that the Auschwitz Museum plays a crucial role in ensuring that the past is comprehended.
