French Foreign Affairs Minister Catherine Colonna, during her visit to Armenia on Tuesday, October 3, announced that France has agreed to provide military equipment to the small South
Caucasus nation. This decision comes in the aftermath of Azerbaijani forces sweeping through the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh last month, securing the surrender of Armenian separatist forces that had controlled the mountainous region for decades.
Colonna stated, "France has given its agreement to the conclusion of future contracts with Armenia which will allow the delivery of military equipment to Armenia so that it can ensure its defense." She mentioned that discussions during her visit touched upon security and defense but did not provide specific details about the nature of the military equipment.
Colonna added, "There is a second category of things that we can do with Armenia," emphasizing that both countries aim to avoid an escalation in the region. France, with its significant Armenian diaspora, has historically played a role in mediating the long-standing territorial dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan concerning Karabakh.
