Air France-KLM announced on Monday, September 25, its intention to purchase 50 long-haul Airbus A350s as part of the group's overhaul of its long-haul fleet.

The order represents more than $16 billion at list prices, and the aircraft are scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2030. Additionally, the order includes purchase rights for 40 additional aircraft.

The primary objective of this order is to replace 33 older-generation Boeing 777-200s and A330s currently in operation by the two airlines.

Ben Smith, the CEO of Air France-KLM, stated that the group has set a goal of reducing CO2 emissions per passenger kilometer by 30% by 2030. The Airbus A350 is known for its improved fuel efficiency, consuming 25% less fuel compared to previous generation aircraft of similar size, thanks to the use of lighter materials.
