British Queen celebrates

Less than a month after King Charles and Queen Camilla’s inaugural visit to Canada as monarch and consort, another member of the Royal Family is set to travel to the country.

The Duke of Edinburgh will visit Canada at the end of June.

On June 25, His Royal Highness is scheduled to arrive in Prince Edward Island — named after his ancestor, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, who was his great-great-great-great-grandfather. The Duke currently serves as colonel-in-chief of the Prince Edward Island Regiment, a Primary Reserve armoured reconnaissance unit. His visit will coincide with the regiment’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

This will mark the first royal visit to the province in a decade. The Duke, then known as the Earl of Wessex, last visited in 2015 for a previous milestone celebration with the regiment.

Following his time on the island, the Duke will head to Toronto on June 28. Additional details about his engagements there are expected to be released closer to the date.

He will conclude his Canadian tour in Ottawa on July 1, where he will participate in Canada Day festivities before returning to London.

This will be the Duke’s seventeenth official visit to Canada. While he is often accompanied by the Duchess of Edinburgh on such occasions, she will not be joining him for this trip. Photo by See Li from London, UK, Wikimedia commons.
