British Queen celebrates

Chancellor Rachel Reeves is under investigation by Parliament's standards commissioner concerning her entries in the Commons register of interests.

According to a spokesperson, the investigation relates to a late declaration. It is understood the matter involves two theatre tickets received by Reeves before Christmas. The tickets were reportedly recorded in the ministerial register but not in the MPs’ register, which her team describes as an administrative oversight.

LBC’s political editor, Natasha Clark, called the situation “incredibly embarrassing” for the Chancellor, especially with local elections approaching.

This follows earlier criticism of Reeves for accepting complimentary tickets to a Sabrina Carpenter concert at the O2 Arena in March. At the time, Reeves acknowledged the decision was “a bit odd” but said security concerns played a role in her accepting the hospitality for herself and a family member. She confirmed she would declare the value to parliamentary authorities.

Downing Street has expressed support for Reeves, with the Prime Minister's office stating that ministers are expected to exercise personal judgment when accepting hospitality in line with the rules.

As Chancellor, Reeves earns £67,505 in addition to her £91,346 MP salary. Previously, she pledged not to accept clothing from donors after it emerged she had received £7,500 worth while in opposition.

The issue reflects broader scrutiny of ministerial conduct around hospitality. After a controversy last year involving senior Labour figures accepting gifts following their election win, the Prime Minister pledged to reimburse some items and introduced stricter transparency rules.
