London Underground faces a series of strikes in the first weeks of January, leading to major service disruptions. Members of the Rail, Maritime, and Transport union (RMT) plan to strike due to
pay issues, causing potential chaos for commuters.
The strike schedule spans from 7th to 12th January, impacting various Tube services. To help navigate the affected days, here's a breakdown of the strike schedule and service disruptions:
Sunday, 7th January:
Tube services end earlier than usual at 5:30 PM. However, lines serving the Emirates Stadium will operate later for the Arsenal v Liverpool FA Cup tie.
Only the Underground services will be affected on this evening. Other services like the Elizabeth Line, London Overground, and DLR are expected to operate normally.
Monday, 8th to Thursday, 11th January:
Severe disruption is expected, with minimal to no service on the Underground. Other services may face station closures or disruptions.
Friday, 12th January:
Although no strikes are scheduled for this day, Tube services will commence later due to the prior industrial action. Normal services are expected to resume by midday.
During strike days, passengers are urged to complete their journeys early and check service updates regularly. TfL advises using their journey planner for real-time service information.
The strikes arise from RMT members' dissatisfaction with the 5% pay offer and concerns about staff travel facilities. TfL encourages dialogue to prevent disruptions and advises travelers to stay updated on service changes. Photo by Tom Page from London, UK, Wikimedia commons.
