The London Tube is set to experience a week of strikes from July 23 to 28 due to an ongoing dispute concerning pensions, job cuts, and working conditions, announced the trade union RMT on
Thursday.
While more than 10,000 workers are eligible to participate in the strikes, the impact will vary across different sections of the Tube network and grades of workers on different days, according to an RMT spokesperson.
RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch emphasized that this week of action will result in the shutdown of the London Underground, highlighting the essential work performed by the union's members.
In recent times, rail workers throughout the United Kingdom, along with employees from various industries and professions, have staged multiple strikes in response to the impact of high inflation and their demands for improved pay.
Transport for London's Chief Operating Officer Glynn Barton expressed disappointment over the RMT's decision to initiate strike action on multiple issues that have been open for discussion. Barton urged the union to reconsider and engage in dialogue to address these concerns and work towards a resolution. Photo by Hahifuheho, Wikimedia commons.
