Mohamed Salah has put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new contract with Liverpool FC, extending his stay at Anfield until 2027.
The Egyptian star, whose previous deal was set to expire this summer, has committed to two more years with the Reds—just as the club edges closer to sealing another Premier League title.
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot praised the move, calling it a strong signal of the club’s continued ambition.
Speaking to the club’s website, Salah said: “Of course I’m very excited. We have a great team now—just like we did before. I signed because I believe we can win more trophies and I’m enjoying my football.”
Now in his eighth season at Liverpool, Salah has already netted 32 goals in 45 appearances this campaign. He currently leads the Premier League scoring charts with 27 goals.
“It’s been the best period of my career,” he added. “I’ve been here eight years, hopefully I’ll make it to 10. I’m enjoying life, enjoying football. I want to thank the fans—I’m very, very happy to stay. I believe we can win big trophies together. Keep supporting us, and we’ll keep giving everything.”
The deal, negotiated in part by sporting director Richard Hughes, marks a shift in strategy from owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG), who typically avoid offering lucrative extensions to players over 30. In Salah’s case, a reported £350,000-a-week salary remains untouched.
Slot acknowledged the importance of both FSG’s financial backing and Salah’s personal commitment.
“Ultimately, it was Mo’s decision. But Richard, Michael Edwards, and FSG put in a lot of effort—and yes, that means financial effort too,” said Slot. “It sends out a really positive message. If you want to attract or keep top players, seeing one of your stars commit his future to the club is huge. It reflects our ambition.”
Salah, who joined Liverpool in 2017, has been pivotal to the club’s recent success, helping them lift the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and more. He’s won three Golden Boots and sits third on the club’s all-time goalscoring list, with 243 goals in 394 games.
His new deal comes amid uncertainty around the futures of fellow senior players Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Van Dijk is reportedly also close to agreeing a new contract, while talks with Alexander-Arnold are more complicated due to interest from Real Madrid.
Still, Liverpool’s focus remains clear: keeping their core stars while balancing their sporting and financial strategy.
