In 2024, the Summer Olympics will return to Paris, offering a beautiful and familiar backdrop for this prestigious event. Paris, one of the most frequent hosts in the

128-year history of the modern Olympics, will join another European city, London, as the only cities to host the Summer Games three times.

Here’s a detailed look at the cities and countries that have hosted the Olympics most frequently and a year-by-year overview of the Olympic host cities.

Cities Hosting the Olympics Multiple Times

Since the inaugural modern Olympics in Athens in 1896, only five cities have hosted the Summer Games more than once. Paris' 2024 Games will mark its third time hosting, putting it in an exclusive club with London.

London, United Kingdom: Hosted in 1908, 1948, and 2012.

Paris, France: Hosted in 1900, 1924, and scheduled for 2024.

Los Angeles, United States: Hosted in 1932 and 1984, and will host again in 2028.

Athens, Greece: Hosted in 1896 and 2004.

Tokyo, Japan: Hosted in 1964 and 2020.

Notably, Los Angeles is set to join London and Paris in the three-time host category when it hosts the Games in 2028. Additionally, Beijing is the only city to have hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympics, achieving this in 2008 and 2022, respectively.
