Bayern Munich and Tottenham have reached a preliminary agreement for the transfer of England captain Harry Kane, a deal valued at over 100 million euros (£86.4 million).
Harry Kane, aged 30, has a remaining one year on his contract with Spurs and now faces the decision of whether to stay or depart.
Notably, Kane holds the record as Tottenham's all-time top scorer, having netted 280 goals in 435 appearances.
This summer, Kane was previously linked with Manchester United before Bayern Munich prioritized him as their primary target.
Kane's future at the London club has been uncertain for several seasons, while multiple Bayern bids were rejected earlier in the summer.
A recent offer was turned down by Tottenham on Monday, and Bayern Munich indicated that a failed bid would prompt them to explore alternative targets.
Throughout the years, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has consistently rebuffed interest in Kane, including in 2021 when Manchester City aimed to secure the striker's services.
Uncertainty persisted over whether Levy would consider selling Kane to another Premier League team. Earlier this year, Levy expressed reluctance to engage in business with either of the Manchester clubs.
Given Kane's reluctance to extend his contract with Spurs, it seems that Levy has opted to sell the player now, rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year.
Kane, who emerged from Tottenham's academy, participated in pre-season matches while negotiations with Bayern unfolded. His most recent appearance was against Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday.
Ange Postecoglou, the new manager of Tottenham, promised to present Kane with his "vision" for the club following his appointment this summer, expressing his desire for the striker to remain in North London.
Since his debut for Tottenham in 2012, Kane has clinched the Premier League Golden Boot three times (in 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2020-21), amassing 213 goals from 320 Premier League games. He is just 48 goals away from breaking Alan Shearer's scoring record.
Despite being England's all-time top scorer with 58 international goals, Kane has yet to secure a major trophy with either his club or the national team.
In contrast, Bayern Munich boasts a track record of consistent success in Germany. The team secured their 33rd Bundesliga title last season, marking an 11th consecutive win.
