British Queen celebrates

Chelsea is on the brink of finalizing a £17 million deal to acquire Santos forward Deivid Washington.

The 18-year-old Brazilian talent is poised to become the seventh major signing for the club this summer after an impressive breakout season in South America.

Alongside Angelo Gabriel, Washington will transition from Santos to Stamford Bridge. However, neither player will remain with the Blues for the upcoming season.

Chelsea's strategy involves loaning both teenage talents to Strasbourg, the French club recently acquired by BlueCo, establishing it as a sister club to the Premier League side.

Moreover, the Blues intend to dispatch at least one more player to the Ligue 1 side for the 2023-24 season, with Lesely Ugochukwu being the likely candidate.

The 19-year-old Angelo Gabriel recently joined from Rennes on a seven-year contract for £23 million earlier this month. Despite the possibility of going on loan, he has been assigned the No. 16 shirt for the upcoming season.

Santos omitted Washington from their squad in the 1-1 draw against Athletico Paranense over the weekend, publicly acknowledging his impending departure, despite late interest from Monaco.

While Christopher Nkunku undergoes knee surgery, Mauricio Pochettino might explore the transfer market to reinforce the attacking options. Nevertheless, Washington will not be the player to fill the void left by the injured Frenchman.
