Noni Madueke has officially been awarded Arsenal’s second goal in their emphatic 4-0 victory over Leeds United, following a saying by the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Panel.
The strike, which came from a Madueke corner, was initially recorded as an own goal after Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow diverted the ball into his own net while attempting to deal with the delivery. However, after review, the panel ruled that the decisive touch belonged to Madueke, not the Leeds shot-stopper.
The decision means the former Chelsea winger now has his first Premier League goal credited to him since joining Arsenal — a small but meaningful milestone in his early spell at the club.
Madueke’s corner caused immediate problems for the Leeds defence, dipping dangerously into the six-yard box before Darlow’s attempted save sent the ball over the line. While the goalkeeper’s intervention was clear, the panel determined that the original delivery was goal-bound, justifying the change in attribution.
The ruling may also have consequences for Fantasy Premier League managers. Goal Accreditation Panel decisions can impact FPL points, but only if they are confirmed before the final day of the relevant Gameweek — a detail that will be closely monitored by players tracking their scores.
Arsenal’s win at Leeds capped off a dominant performance, and with Madueke now on the scoresheet officially, the evening became even more satisfying for both the player and the Gunners faithful. Photo by premierleague.com.
