Pro-Russian hackers have claimed responsibility for cyberattacks on Italian banks, with at least seven banks targeted. The hacking group, named NoName057(16), conducted distributed
denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, flooding the targeted websites with junk traffic to make them inoperable.
The affected banks included Banca Popolare di Bari, Intesa Sanpaolo, Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, BPER Banca, Banca Popolare di Sondrio, FinecoBank, and Mediobanca Banca di Credito Finanziario's CheBanca.
Some banks responded quickly and restored their websites within hours, stating that no customer data was compromised. SentinelLabs, a cybersecurity firm, identified NoName057(16) as a hacking group emerging after the Ukraine war, known for DDoS attacks on Ukraine and NATO supporters of Kyiv.
