Two drones targeted the office of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s prime minister in Iraq on Monday in an attack that authorities said was launched from Iranian territory.

The Kurdistan Regional Government’s security agency said the drones were directed at the prime minister’s office, raising fresh concerns over the security situation in the autonomous Kurdish region and the potential for the conflict to spill across borders.

According to a statement issued by the KRG, both drones originated from Iranian territory. No casualties were reported, and there was no immediate indication of the extent of any damage to the building or surrounding area.

The attack comes amid heightened regional tensions and growing concern over the use of drones and missiles against political, military and strategic targets across the Middle East.

Kurdish authorities have not publicly identified those responsible for launching the drones. Further details about the attack, including the precise location from which the drones were launched and the circumstances surrounding the strike, were not immediately available.

The incident is likely to add to pressure on Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government to strengthen security along Iraq’s borders and prevent Iraqi territory from becoming a wider arena for regional confrontation. Photo by Idmental, Wikimedia commons.
