The United Kingdom has announced an additional £2 million in humanitarian assistance to Lebanon, reinforcing its support for communities affected by the ongoing crisis.
Speaking during the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper confirmed the new funding, bringing Britain’s total humanitarian contribution to Lebanon to £9.5 million since the conflict began.
The latest allocation will be directed through the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs via its Lebanon Humanitarian Fund. The program plays a critical role in delivering essential services, including food aid, clean water, healthcare, shelter, and protection for vulnerable populations across the country.
Lebanon continues to face severe humanitarian pressure, worsened by economic instability, political uncertainty, and the spillover effects of regional tensions. Aid agencies have warned that needs are rising sharply, particularly among displaced families and low-income communities.
The UK’s latest pledge highlights its ongoing commitment to Lebanon, a country with which it shares longstanding diplomatic and development ties. Over the years, Britain has supported Lebanon’s stability through humanitarian aid, security cooperation, and development programs. The UK has also worked closely with Lebanese authorities and international partners to strengthen border security, counter terrorism, and support the country’s armed forces.
In addition, the UK has been a consistent donor in response to major crises in Lebanon, including the aftermath of the 2020 Beirut port explosion and the continuing refugee situation, with Lebanon hosting one of the highest numbers of refugees per capita in the world.
Officials say the new funding is intended to help frontline organizations respond quickly to urgent needs, as humanitarian conditions continue to deteriorate.
British Ambassador to Lebanon Hamish Cowell said: “The UK remains deeply concerned about the worsening humanitarian situation in Lebanon. The Foreign Secretary announced additional humanitarian funding to support vulnerable communities across the country. We will continue to coordinate with the Government of Lebanon and humanitarian partners”.
