U.S. President Donald Trump warned on Saturday that the United States would impose sweeping tariffs on Canadian goods if Canada moves forward with a trade agreement with China,

escalating already tense rhetoric around North American trade and global supply chains.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he would slap a 100% tariff on all Canadian imports if Canada were to reach a deal with Beijing. He accused Canada of potentially serving as a gateway for Chinese products to enter the U.S. market, a scenario he said would not be tolerated.

“If Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a ‘Drop Off Port’ for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken,” Trump wrote. He went on to claim that China would “eat Canada alive,” warning that closer economic ties with Beijing would harm Canadian businesses, social cohesion, and the country’s way of life.

Trump added that any agreement between Canada and China would trigger immediate retaliation in the form of tariffs on Canadian goods entering the United States. The comments underscore Trump’s continued hardline stance on trade with China and signal the potential for renewed trade tensions with one of America’s closest allies.
