British Queen celebrates

Mobile phone coverage on the London Underground has expanded once again, according to an announcement from Transport for London (TfL).

New sections of the Northern and Victoria lines now have access to 4G and 5G signals, giving more passengers the ability to stay connected while traveling underground. This includes the tunnelled stretch between Balham and South Wimbledon, with stations such as Kennington, Oval, Tooting Broadway, and South Wimbledon now online. Commuters traveling between South Wimbledon and Stockwell can now enjoy uninterrupted mobile coverage.

Work is underway to further extend coverage on the Northern line, with plans to reach Morden and Kennington by the end of summer. For the first time, the Bank branch of the Northern line—between Euston and Bank—is also being connected.

On the Victoria line, mobile coverage is being introduced between Vauxhall and Pimlico. Additional sections, including the stretch from Green Park to Brixton, are expected to be brought online in the next phase.

TfL also confirmed that key interchange stations such as King’s Cross St Pancras and Green Park will soon have high-speed mobile service. Coverage on the Jubilee line will be extended from Swiss Cottage, linking up with the existing network at Westminster.

While London’s mayor originally pledged full mobile coverage across the entire Underground network by 2024, that goal has since been delayed to 2026.
