The UK is in for another week of sunshine and blue skies, with calm and settled weather continuing across most of the country.
If you're off for the Easter holidays, you're in luck — you couldn’t have picked a better week to enjoy the outdoors.
Thanks to light winds, it’s going to feel noticeably warmer for many compared to last week. The exception will be coastal areas and some eastern regions, where it might stay a bit cooler for now.
No rain is expected until later in the weekend, with a chance of more substantial showers arriving into next week.
Warming up again
You may have noticed a chill in the air over the weekend, especially when out of direct sunlight. That’s because a large area of high pressure sitting to the north of the UK has been pulling in cooler air from Scandinavia. Combined with breezy conditions, it’s felt particularly cold along eastern-facing coasts — where the sea is still only around 7–8°C.
But things are shifting. As the high pressure system moves further south this week, winds will ease and longer sunny days will help temperatures climb again.
Temperature outlook
Early in the week, most of the UK will see temperatures ranging from 12 to 20°C. By Tuesday, parts of north and west Scotland, along with western Northern Ireland, could nudge above 20°C.
Wednesday will stay warm for many, though some cloud may drift over eastern Scotland and England, dropping temperatures there to a cooler 9–13°C.
Later in the week, areas in England and Wales could enjoy highs of 20–22°C. And with the easterly breeze weakening, even the North Sea coasts should feel milder than they have recently.
A quick note for gardeners
While the days are shaping up to be much warmer than the early April average (10–13°C), nights will still be chilly. Away from towns and cities, there's still a risk of light frost early in the week — something to keep in mind if you’re planting or growing. Photo by Ray in Manila, Wikimedia commons.
