The Royal Navy’s flagship, HMS Prince of Wales, made an early entrance into Liverpool, arriving a day ahead of her original schedule due to weather-related adjustments.
The city awoke to the sight of Britain’s largest warship, which had been scheduled to dock on December 2. The aircraft carrier’s early arrival marked the beginning of a week-long visit filled with high-profile events and public engagement.
The HMS Prince of Wales recently assumed the title of the Royal Navy's flagship, succeeding her sister ship, HMS Queen Elizabeth.
The Royal Navy said: "The carrier is now alongside at the Cruise Liner terminal, a proverbial stone's throw from the Liver Building, Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building - 'The Three Graces'.
"She'll be in her affiliated city until next Monday, 9 December for a series of high-profile engagement events aboard and ashore, including receiving the Freedom of the City on Friday, and two open days for 20,000 members of the public." Photo by Alex Ceolin, Wikimedia commons.
