British Queen celebrates

Britain's car production experienced its fifth straight month of decline in July, impacted by manufacturers transitioning to new models and facing temporary supply chain

disruptions, according to industry data released on Thursday.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reported that a total of 65,478 cars were produced in July, representing a 14.4% decrease compared to the same month last year.

Electrified vehicles, including fully electric cars, plug-in hybrids, and full hybrids, made up 37.5% of the total production in July, down from 39.5% in the previous year.

SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes noted, "The industry is likely to continue experiencing some volatility as it undergoes restructuring to facilitate the transition to zero-emission vehicle production."

Despite challenges, automakers such as Nissan and Tata Motors have committed multi-billion-pound investments in electric vehicle (EV) production at their UK facilities, strengthening the sector's foreign investment and supporting the push toward net-zero emissions.

However, rising living and manufacturing costs have impacted EV sales and production, leading global automakers like Ford, General Motors, and Mercedes to scale back their ambitious EV plans.

For the year to date, UK car production has increased by 14.8%, reaching 118,672 units, according to SMMT. Photo by M 93, Wikimedia commons.
