British Queen celebrates

Following their coronation nearly a year ago, Buckingham Palace has disclosed the outcome of a thorough review regarding the patronages formerly held by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

These have been allocated among King Charles, Queen Camilla, and other members of the British Royal Family.

The Palace reported that over 1,000 organizations and charities with ties to Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles, and Queen Camilla were assessed to determine which would be upheld.

At the time of her passing, Queen Elizabeth II maintained 492 patronages, out of which 376 will be continued. Meanwhile, King Charles, formerly Prince of Wales, held 441 patronages, with 367 set to be retained. Queen Camilla, formerly Duchess of Cornwall, held 100 patronages, of which 91 will be retained.

In the initial announcement, King Charles and Queen Camilla disclosed their assumption of charities formerly under Queen Elizabeth II's patronage.

King Charles is set to take over the patronage of several organizations including the Royal British Legion, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Braemar Royal Highland Society, Camerata Ireland, Dogs Trust, and the Royal Commonwealth Society. Notable among those retained by King Charles are the Commonwealth Forestry Association, the Heritage Crafts Association, Samaritans, WaterAid, the Welsh National Opera, The Wildlife Trusts, and the Youth United Foundation.

On the other hand, Queen Camilla will assume patronage of entities such as the Army Benevolent Fund, the Royal Academy of Dance, the Royal Literary Fund, the Royal Voluntary Service, and the Sandringham Women’s Institute. Additionally, the royal couple will jointly patronize The Jockey Club.

The Palace disclosed that organizations will be informed of their royal patronage statuses in the coming weeks, including information on who will assume the patronages not retained by King Charles or Queen Camilla.

Furthermore, a separate review will be conducted to assess patronages held in the 14 Commonwealth Realms to determine their retention. Photo by Andy Gott, Wikimedia commons.
