British Queen celebrates

Over 180 schools in the northern region of Scotland have been forced to close due to heavy snowfall. Aberdeen and much of Aberdeenshire are covered in a blanket of snow, prompting various

educational institutions to either shut down or implement delayed opening times. In some areas, school buses have been canceled to ensure the safety of students during challenging weather conditions.

Aberdeenshire Council has officially announced the closure of more than 100 schools, while a significant number of schools in Shetland are also not operating. Additionally, over 60 schools and nurseries in the Highland Council area have been affected, leading to closures. Seven schools in Moray have declared shutdowns, and others are adopting later start times for students due to the prevailing weather conditions.

Students in Aberdeenshire who were scheduled to take preliminary exams have been advised that new arrangements may be instituted. The current yellow warning for snow and ice in the north of Scotland is anticipated to extend across the entire country on Tuesday. Furthermore, an additional snow warning is in place for the north of Scotland and the Western Isles on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Shetland Islands Council reported hazardous road conditions in many areas, impacting public bus services and causing disruptions to ferry services across the islands. Strong winds led to the cancellation of Sunday night's ferry sailings to and from Aberdeen. The adverse weather conditions are expected to persist, affecting various aspects of daily life in the region.Photo by Richard Slessor, Wikimedia commons.
