Jude Bellingham scored twice, including an extra-time winner, as England overcame a spirited Norway 2-1 at Miami Stadium to book their place in the World Cup semi-finals for the fourth
time. The midfielder's decisive goal came three minutes into extra time after Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland could only parry Morgan Rogers' powerful long-range effort, allowing Bellingham to react quickest and convert the rebound in front of a crowd of 64,478.
England had been forced to recover after Andreas Schjelderup gave Norway the lead with a superb strike in the 36th minute. Bellingham restored parity just before the interval, weaving into the penalty area before finishing calmly to ensure the sides went into the break level.
The victory sends Thomas Tuchel's side into a semi-final against either Argentina or Switzerland in Atlanta on Wednesday. England are now one step closer to reaching another World Cup final as they pursue a first title since their 1966 triumph.
Despite the result, Tuchel admitted he was dissatisfied with his team's display.
"The result is fantastic. We're in the last four. It's amazing, but I'm not happy with the performance," he said.
"We made life very, very difficult for ourselves in the way we played. Sloppy, a lot of technical mistakes, not fast enough, not repetitive enough. We were lucky today."
Norway, appearing at their first World Cup in 28 years, pushed England throughout and will feel unfortunate not to have taken the match further. They also limited England's opportunities while seeing star striker Erling Haaland fail to score for the first time in his last 16 international appearances.
Captain Martin Ødegaard said his side could still leave the tournament with pride.
"It is a bit bitter, but it has been an adventure," he said.
"We must be proud. We are here for the first time in a long time, and we are making our mark. The whole world is talking about us." Photo by Bryan Berlin / WikiPortraits, Wikimedia commons.
