British Queen celebrates

Dunelm Group, a British homewares retailer, announced a 9% increase in first-quarter sales. Despite a cost-of-living crisis, customers continued to invest in their homes by purchasing new

curtains, bedding, and home decorations.

In the face of high inflation and increasing borrowing costs, major British retailers like Dunelm have managed to maintain competitive prices and attract customers, resulting in robust consumer spending.

The company expressed that their growth was widespread across various product categories, with their new autumn/winter collections, including collaborations with Disney and the Natural History Museum, resonating positively with consumers.

Dunelm, with over 179 stores across the UK and a digital platform, reported growth in sales volume and a 120 basis points (bps) improvement in gross margin during the first quarter. This performance aligns with their full-year guidance, which anticipates approximately 100 bps growth year-on-year.

For the 13-week period ending on September 30, the company reported total sales of £390 million ($472.3 million). Photo by Rodhullandemu, Wikimedia commons.
