British Queen celebrates

The one-off payment, issued by the Department for Work and Pensions, will help disabled people with the extra costs they face.

This means the vast majority of eligible disabled people in receipt of a qualifying disability benefit – including Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment – have received the support within just five working days of the rollout starting, with the few outstanding payments due to be made by 4 July.

Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Mel Stride MP, said:

Tackling high inflation remains our priority as this is the best way we can ease pressure on households and help them with the cost of living.

By paying more than six million disabled people £150 in less than a week, we are delivering on our steadfast commitment to providing timely support for those who need it most.

Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work, Tom Pursglove MP, said:

We are ensuring that disabled people facing additional costs can access these extra funds as soon as possible, and I’m delighted the vast majority of payments have been successfully made to eligible people within just five working days.

This will be backed up by further cost of living payments for benefit claimants in the coming months, showing this Government’s commitment to providing millions in support for the most vulnerable in our society.

As the payment is made automatically, those eligible for the support do not need to take any action. The payment reference on bank statements will appear as the individual’s National Insurance number followed by “DWP COL”.

The full list of benefit recipients that qualify for the Disability Cost of Living Payment between 20 June and 4 July are those who receive any of the following:

Disability Living Allowance

Personal Independence Payment

Attendance Allowance

Scottish Disability Benefits (Adult Disability Payment and Child Disability Payment)

Armed Forces Independence Payment

Constant Attendance Allowance

War Pension Mobility Supplement

This latest payment is in addition to the £150 Disability Cost of Living Payment that was paid last September.

Pensioners will also receive a further £300 payment later this year as an addition to the Winter Fuel Payment, and people on eligible means-tested benefits will be paid up to two more Cost of Living Payments through to next Spring.

This means that some of the most vulnerable households can receive up to £1,350 in direct Cost of Living support.

A smaller number of payments will be made after 4 July, where claimants were still awaiting confirmation of their eligibility or entitlement to qualifying disability benefits on 1 April. Photo by Chemical Engineer, Wikimedia commons.
