From Monday 18 May, passengers in London will see a significant improvement in peak-time travel, as additional shuttle services are introduced on the Mildmay line between
Clapham Junction and Shepherd’s Bush.
These new services are part of a broader effort to support growing passenger demand and improve access to the redeveloped Olympia London, one of the capital’s most iconic cultural landmarks undergoing a major transformation.
More trains, faster journeys
Transport for London (TfL) will add 16 extra weekday peak-time services, increasing capacity and reducing congestion:
- Morning peak: +20% capacity
- Evening peak: +33% capacity
- Service pattern:
- 3 additional trains in the morning
- 5 additional trains in the evening
- Departure point: Platform 17 at Clapham Junction
These enhancements aim to shorten journey times, ease overcrowding, and provide a smoother commuting experience.
Olympia: London’s new cultural hub
The investment behind these additional services comes from global developers leading the £1.3 billion regeneration of Olympia London.
Now celebrating its 140th anniversary, Olympia is being reimagined into a major destination for entertainment, culture, and hospitality. The redevelopment includes:
- A new state-of-the-art music venue
- The British Airways Theatre, set to be London’s largest new theatre in 50 years
- The British Airways ARC
- New hotels, restaurants, and bars
- Modern office spaces and public areas
This transformation is expected to significantly increase visitor numbers, making improved transport links essential.
Better connections across London
With more frequent trains to Shepherd’s Bush, passengers will benefit from:
- Easier access to the Central line
- Convenient connections to Westfield London
- Improved links to the wider TfL network
What this means for passengers
The new Mildmay line services are not just about adding trains—they represent a coordinated effort to support one of London’s most ambitious urban redevelopments while improving everyday travel.
For commuters and visitors alike, this means faster, less crowded journeys and better access to a revitalised Olympia, set to become a key destination in London’s cultural landscape.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan said: “This is great news for Londoners. These additional services will provide more capacity, making journeys easier and more comfortable for Londoners. As Mayor, I'm committed to continuing to improve London's public transport network as we build a better, greener London for everyone.”
Rory O'Neill, TfL's General Manager of the London Overground, said: 'We are delighted to have this agreement with Olympia that enables us to start these services from 18 May. It will allow us to introduce more peak services on the Clapham Junction branch of the Mildmay line, increasing capacity and making it easier for customers to attend events at the newly transformed venue. This five-year deal is a significant investment that will help TfL deliver the best possible service to our customers and Londoners using public transport.'
Michael Volkert, CEO of Olympia Estates, said: “With Olympia soon to be welcoming Londoners and visitors from all over the world, our priority is to make sure that our fantastic new bars, restaurants, hotels and cultural venues, as well as our iconic halls, are easily accessible for as many people as possible. This agreement with TfL is a major step in ensuring our guests are only ever moments away from our corner of the capital, and we are delighted to have been able to play our part in making this happen.”
The new train services will depart from platform 17 at Clapham Junction. Existing services to Stratford will continue to operate from Platform 1.
