Renowned human rights barrister Amal Clooney has joined the University of Oxford as a visiting professor of practice in international law at the Blavatnik School of Government,
according to The Times.
The 47-year-old, who studied law at St. Hugh’s College, expressed her honor in returning to her alma mater in an academic role.
The Blavatnik School of Government announced its enthusiasm for Clooney’s appointment, stating that her expertise would significantly contribute to the school’s research and teaching.
Clooney has successfully represented victims of genocide, sexual violence, and persecution in some of the world’s most prestigious courts, including the International Criminal Court.
Beyond her legal practice, she co-founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice with her husband in 2016, providing legal aid for free speech and women’s rights cases across more than 40 countries.
An accomplished author, Clooney has published two textbooks on international law and previously served as a visiting professor at Columbia Law School in New York City.
“It is a privilege to engage with the next generation of global leaders and to contribute to Oxford’s vibrant academic community,” Clooney stated. “I look forward to collaborating with both faculty and students to advance access to justice worldwide.” Photo by Wikimedia commons.
