The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh visited the British Embassy in Tokyo today to mark the launch of new partnership programmes between the UK and Japan, part of the growing
MUSUBI Initiative.
The Embassy reception brought together senior officials, business leaders, educators, and cultural figures from both countries to celebrate the next chapter of this innovative collaboration.
Three new programmes were introduced:
- Mentorship for women leaders – supported by Odgers and Chubu Electric.
- Career support for women in finance – provided by the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG).
- Development of MUSUBI into an independent foundation – with support from Deloitte.
These initiatives are designed to empower young people, champion sustainability, and deepen cultural understanding between the UK and Japan.
The presence of Their Royal Highnesses underlined the strong and enduring friendship between the two nations, as well as their shared commitment to supporting the next generation of leaders.
Launched at Expo 2025, the MUSUBI Initiative represents the first large-scale public–private partnership of its kind between the UK and Japan. Inspired by the Japanese word *musubi*—meaning “connection” or “tying together”—the programme links government, business, academia, and civil society to create lasting opportunities for collaboration and leadership.
