British Queen celebrates

The Museum of London is issuing a public call for attention-grabbing signs from past and present London establishments, as part of an upcoming exhibition.

The exhibition, titled "Hanging Out," aims to portray the stories of Londoners through a selection of signs representing various communities across the city over the past 80 years.

The museum is seeking signs from pubs, community centers, cinemas, barber shops, and other businesses.

Scheduled to open in 2026, the exhibition will be featured on the ground floor of the Smithfield General Market building. This move is part of the museum's transition to its new location, dedicated to exploring London's history within living memory.

Signs under consideration should have a minimum size of 50cm x 50cm and can come from any type of business or enterprise.

Beatrice Behlen, the senior curator of fashion & decorative arts at the Museum of London, expressed, "Hanging Out will be a celebration of the countless communities that thrive within London. Whether it's a music venue, a sports club, a hairdresser, a café, or any other establishment, we invite London's residents to share their suggestions about which signs they believe should be included in our museum."

Individuals who possess a sign they would like to propose for consideration or seek additional information can contact the Museum of London via its official website. Photo by Ethan Doyle White, Wikimedia commons.
