British Queen celebrates

The National Library of Brazil (FBN) in Rio and the British Library (BL) in London just signed a partnership to team up on research projects, public engagement, and knowledge-sharing about

their amazing collections.

The deal was sealed this Monday (10) at the British Library headquarters, with signatures from Marco Lucchesi, president of the National Library Foundation (linked to Brazil’s Ministry of Culture), and Rebecca Lawrence, chief executive of the BL.

Lucchesi called the memorandum “a celebration of cultural ties between Brazil and the UK,” highlighting how the collaboration will spark new initiatives, technical learning, and innovation in library management.

Lawrence added that the agreement will boost dialogue and exchange of skills, helping both institutions deepen public understanding of the treasures they preserve.

It’s the UK’s national library, home to a mind-blowing 170+ million items—from maps and manuscripts to sound recordings and even archived websites. Beyond books, it’s also a social hub where people research, meet, create, or simply soak up inspiration at its galleries and events. Photo by Halleypo, Wikimedia commons.
