The United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Germany have welcomed the Arab League’s initiative to rebuild Gaza, emphasizing its potential for sustainable recovery.
In a joint statement released on Saturday, the foreign ministers of the four nations expressed support for the Recovery and Reconstruction Plan for Gaza, calling it a "realistic path" toward improving the dire humanitarian conditions in the region.
"If implemented, the plan promises swift and sustainable improvements for Palestinians in Gaza," the statement read.
The ministers stressed that any reconstruction efforts must be built on a stable political and security framework that is acceptable to both Israelis and Palestinians, ensuring long-term peace and security for all.
Additionally, the statement affirmed support for the Palestinian Authority’s central role in the process, along with the implementation of its reform agenda.
The endorsement follows an emergency Arab summit in Cairo, where leaders backed Egypt’s $53 billion reconstruction plan aimed at rebuilding Gaza without displacing Palestinian residents from their land.
The Arab initiative emerged in response to previous U.S. proposals, including former President Donald Trump’s vision to redevelop Gaza into the "Riviera of the Middle East"—a plan widely rejected across the Arab world as an attempt at ethnic cleansing. Photo by Template:Wmcu, Wikimedia commons.
