The Cape Verdean Government has firmly rejected any prospect of engaging in negotiations with the United Kingdom concerning the reception of illegal immigrants redirected from the British
Isles, akin to the agreement reached with Rwanda.
In a statement, the Cape Verdean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Regional Integration asserted that the matter had not been broached previously, and the government categorically refuses to entertain any discussions on this matter.
This response follows reports by The Times, indicating that Cape Verde and Angola could potentially be approached by the United Kingdom as part of negotiations, alongside other countries such as Costa Rica, Armenia, Ivory Coast, and Botswana, to receive migrants. These reports were based on official documents obtained through a data leak.
Meanwhile, the proposed legislation by the British Government aimed at deporting illegal immigrants to Rwanda has returned to the House of Commons for further debates and votes on amendments that were endorsed in the House of Lords. Photo by StanleyMacCoy, Wikimedia commons.
