On Thursday, Polish border guards announced that around 22,800 people have crossed into Poland from Ukraine in the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of
people who have entered Poland since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, to 11.77 million, according to the Polish Border Guard agency. Meanwhile, the agency reported that 9.97 million people have left Poland for Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion. On Wednesday, approximately 21,000 people crossed from Poland into Ukraine.
Poland's President, Andrzej Duda, stated on public broadcaster Polish Radio last month that the country is currently home to an estimated 3 million Ukrainians, including those who arrived before the war. The Polish presidential office stated in March that approximately 1.3 million war refugees from Ukraine were staying in Poland after many who had fled Russia's invasion moved on to other countries or decided to return to Ukraine.
Poland enacted a measure in March last year to offer comprehensive support to Ukrainians escaping the Russian invasion of their country, granting them residence rights and ensuring access to education, healthcare, and social benefits. A recent survey shows that 83% of Poles are in favor of accepting refugees from war-torn Ukraine.
