On May 10, 2022, President Joe Biden announced the revocation of COVID-19 vaccination requirements for international visitors to the United States, federal
employees, and contractors. The new order will take effect from 12:01 a.m. ET on May 12, coinciding with the end of the U.S. COVID public health emergency.
Biden's initial vaccination requirements for about 3.5 million federal employees and contractors had not been enforced since September 2021 after several court rulings. White House COVID-19 response coordinator, Ashish Jha, told reporters that the vaccination requirements were no longer necessary to protect Americans, citing the high vaccination rate among U.S. workers.
The U.S. Health and Human Services Department is also ending vaccination requirements for Head Start educators and government-certified healthcare facilities. The Homeland Security Department will no longer require non-U.S. travelers to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination when entering the country through land ports of entry and ferries.
