The United Kingdom and Honduras have taken another step toward strengthening their economic relationship following an introductory virtual meeting between the
British Ambassador to Honduras, Juliana Correa, and Honduras’ newly appointed Secretary of Economic Development, Eddy Johans Ordóñez Rubí.
The meeting focused on shared priorities and fresh opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, investment and sustainable development.
During the conversation, Ambassador Correa highlighted the steady growth of economic ties between the United Kingdom and Honduras. Bilateral trade reached US$273 million in 2025, representing an 11% increase compared to the previous year. This growth, she noted, has been largely supported by the continued success of the UK–Central America Association Agreement, now in its fifth year of implementation.
Ambassador Correa also reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to backing strategic infrastructure projects that generate concrete social and economic benefits for Hondurans, underlining the importance of long-term, inclusive development.
For his part, Secretary Ordóñez Rubí shared his vision for boosting Honduras’ national competitiveness. His priorities include revitalising key productive sectors, attracting increased domestic and foreign investment, and creating a more agile and business-friendly environment. He emphasised plans to simplify administrative procedures, strengthen public–private partnerships and support entrepreneurs as drivers of economic growth.
Both sides agreed on the value of expanding technical cooperation and reinforcing engagement with the productive sector. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue building a modern, open and competitive economic framework that supports sustainable growth and long-term prosperity in Honduras.
