Swiss wages showed signs of recovery in 2024, ending a two-year decline driven by inflation and global economic pressures, according to data released Tuesday by the

Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

The median salary for full-time employees rose to CHF 7,024 ($8,674) per month, up from CHF 6,788 in 2022.

The FSO report also highlighted persistent disparities across sectors. Workers in high-value industries continue to earn significantly more, while those in retail, hospitality, and personal services remain at the lower end of the pay scale.

Gender pay gaps are gradually narrowing. In 2024, the gap stood at 8.4%, down from 9.5% in 2022. However, differences in bonuses remain stark: men earned an average of CHF 15,000 annually in bonuses, compared with less than CHF 7,500 for women.

The FSO figures underscore both progress and ongoing challenges in Switzerland’s labor market as it navigates post-crisis recovery.
