British Queen celebrates

Former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has taken on new advisory roles with U.S. tech giant Microsoft and artificial intelligence startup Anthropic, he announced on Thursday.

Sunak, who stepped down as Conservative Party leader after his defeat in the July general election, remains a Member of Parliament. In a LinkedIn post, he said all income from these new roles will be donated to The Richmond Project, a charity he co-founded with his wife, Akshata Murty.

Anthropic, which is backed by Amazon and Google, said Sunak’s part-time position will focus on strategy and global economic and political trends, not UK-specific issues. The company emphasized that the appointment fully complies with rules set by the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA), which monitors post-government employment for former ministers and senior officials.

At Microsoft, Sunak will also advise on global strategy and trends shaping the technology landscape. According to ACOBA’s published advice letter, he is expected to speak at Microsoft’s annual summit but will not be involved in any UK policy matters.

Under ACOBA’s guidelines, Sunak is barred from lobbying the UK government on behalf of either company for two years after leaving office and cannot use any privileged information gained during his time as prime minister.
